Updated over a year ago

Do you know how to develop a FinOps strategy? FinOps is a continuously evolving discipline in cloud financial management and a cultural practice that empowers organizations to maximize their business value by fostering collaboration among engineering, finance, technology, and business teams in making data-driven spending decisions. What steps should you take to control cloud costs?

Uniskai by Profisea Labs, an AI-driven multicloud cost optimization platform, was purposefully created to tackle the persistent issue of growing cloud spending. SSo, if you aim to effortlessly oversee your cloud infrastructure, trim cloud expenses, and enhance your business productivity, Uniskai is the solution you should acquaint yourself with.

So, what exactly is Uniskai? Let's delve deeper into its features.

Cloud Cost Reduction Based on a Unique Cost-saving (Finops) Strategy

Uniskai stands as the most comprehensive all-in-one FinOps platform developed by experienced DevOps and Cloud experts to assist DevOps engineers and IT managers in addressing cloud costs. Uniskai empowers you to visualize all your resources, eliminate wasteful expenditures, optimize spending, and immediately propose a savings strategy.

Uniskai supports various cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. All you need to do is connect your account to Uniskai, and all the information will synchronize within minutes.

The Uniskai platform is designed to cover the phases of FinOps: informing, optimizing, and operating. Our features are crafted to provide real-time visualization of your entire cloud infrastructure and offer an AI-driven cost optimization strategy, along with security and performance recommendations for efficient and productive cloud architecture operations.

Dashboard Overview

The Informing phase, integrated into the Dashboard, provides comprehensive information about the status of your resources. Here, you can view all the regions where your resources are located. When you click on a region, you will be redirected to the corresponding region in Cloudview. The Billing Summary pie chart on the right displays all cloud service costs and the amount spent in each region, including estimated costs. In the Cost by label block, you can view the price of specific resources with labels. Furthermore, the user-friendly interface enables even non-experts to grasp the overall state of the infrastructure.

Cloudview Visibility

The Cloudview feature offers insights into your cloud resources through interactive infrastructure service lists, maps, and architecture diagrams. These data blocks save time for DevOps teams as they are automatically generated in three formats: Cloudlist, Cloudmap, and Cloudnet. Using the billing drill-down function, you can closely examine the prices of specific resources. Additionally, you can manage user access to resources by assigning a label to a particular resource.

Cloudcosts Module

Cloudcosts represents the optimizing phase. This module encompasses several features that suggest best practices for cloud cost optimization in a unified, unique savings strategy aimed at reducing and optimizing cloud spending. The Smart Saving feature provides information about your total and potential savings. You can review each category and consider Uniskai's optimization recommendations.

Billing

The Billing feature offers a comprehensive understanding of your cloud spending. You can select the desired period for cost assessment and access an overview of overall costs. There is also an option to set a budget limit to prevent exceeding the specified cloud cost amount.

Waste Manager

Waste Manager is a distinctive feature designed to identify and eliminate cloud waste that simply drains your resources. You no longer need to perform a manual sanity check. The Waste Manager automatically gathers all the cloud waste from terminated resources (AMIs, Volumes, Elastic IPs, Snapshots), waiting for the cloud environment owner to collect them in bulks (if preferred) and remove them with a simple mouse click. By accepting Uniskai's suggestions, you can promptly eliminate waste.

Cloudsitter for Your Resources

The Cloudsitter is designed for organizations to monitor and control the state of all resources. Top Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) charge per minute/second, which logically means that if an instance is idle, no money is wasted. Uniskai enables multi-service scheduling for Computing machines, Databases, Kubernetes-based cluster items, Autoscaling groups, etc. Additionally, Uniskai provides AI-powered scheduling recommendations based on machine learning models capable of working with both stateful and stateless architectures. Consider creating company-wide hibernation policies to automate the process and pause any machine attached to the policy.

More information about Cloudsitter is available here.

Spot Management Strategy

Spot instances offer significant cost-saving opportunities but come with inherent risks. They utilize free capacity offered by all three major cloud service providers: AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, at a price lower than On-Demand. While Spot instances can notably reduce your cloud costs by paying spot prices hourly, vendors can revoke them with a short notification. Uniskai effectively manages Spot instances to ensure the availability you require, taking proactive steps before any termination occurs. You can also utilize Spot Policies to manage the On-Demand and Spot percentage of resources. Recently, Uniskai has also started supporting a spot strategy for Kubernetes clusters.

Rightsizing

Rightsizing is the most effective way to control cloud costs. It involves optimizing instance types and sizes to align with your workload's performance and capacity requirements while minimizing expenses. It also entails evaluating existing instances to identify opportunities for downsizing without compromising capacity or other essential criteria, ultimately resulting in cost reductions.

Reservation

Reservations offer a pricing model that allows you to pay a lower hourly rate for instances you plan to use for an extended period. You make a one-time payment to reserve an instance for a specified duration, typically one or three years. In exchange for this commitment, you receive a significant discount on the hourly rate for that instance. Reservations are available for EC2, AWS Fargate, AWS Lambda, SageMaker, RDS, ElastiCache, Redshift, and Elasticsearch.

Cloudguard for Security and Performance Control

The Cloudguard feature, in charge of the operating phase, provides valuable cloud security and performance alerts for data protection and enhanced account safety. Uniskai also incorporates security risk tracking with automated recommendations to predict and resolve potential issues.

Teams

Within the Teams section, you can view all team members added to the specific account. This feature enables you to edit team members' information, assign roles, and control platform service editing permissions, all with the aim of ensuring data security.

Logs

The Logs section tracks changes made by any team member and collects system updates. Here, you can review all actions performed within a specific time period.
