Costs anomaly detection alert explanation and configuration

Learn how to set costs anomaly detection alert and stay on top of changes in your expenses

Updated over 2 months ago

Did you know that you can set up notifications to alert you if your expenses deviate significantly from the usual amount?

A cost anomaly alert is an option to notify you when your cost behaves unpredictably. We aim to enhance the clarity and usefulness of cost anomaly notifications for our customers.

To achieve this, we included detailed information about the specific resources that contributed to the anomaly (See the example image below). These details will include the resource ID, region, consumption for the previous business day, consumption on the day the anomaly was detected, and the delta between these consumption values (both numeric and percentage).

The notifications are highlighted in the top three resources with the most significant deltas for each affected service. This additional information will be provided via email, on-site and Slack notifications. The cost anomaly check executes every 6 hours as scheduled by the UTC+0 time zone. You can set up the notifications you receive according to your personal needs.

How to set up an daily anomaly detection alert

To set up any of anomalies, you need to be the owner or administrator of the organization

Step 1

In the top right corner, access the User Profile settings, then select "My organization settings" in the pop-up window.

Step 2

You see the “My Organization page” and now you need to click on the heading Notification Settings.

Step 3

Our system helps you monitor unusual changes in your cloud costs by detecting daily and monthly anomalies. You can customize these settings to suit your needs.

How it works:

  • In the settings, you can define thresholds in percentage (%), currency ($), or both.

  • When your spending exceeds the set threshold, you’ll automatically receive a notification.

Daily anomalies:

  • We check today’s consumption and compare it to the estimated expenses.

  • If today’s usage increases by more than your set percentage or/and exceeds your set dollar amount, we consider it an anomaly.

Monthly anomalies:

  • We look at your total spending for the last month and compare it with current month estimated expenses.

  • Significant increases (based on your chosen thresholds) will trigger a notification, helping you spot unexpected trends before the month ends.

Example:

If you set a daily threshold of 20% or $50, and today’s spending jumps 25% compared to past days, or goes over $50, you’ll get an alert.
Similarly, if your monthly cost so far is 30% higher than the past months, you’ll be notified.

This way, you can react quickly to unusual spending patterns, avoid surprises in your bill, and keep your cloud budget under control.

We recommend using 'and', so you are notified only when the expenditure exceeds both the specified dollar amount and percentage..
