How Purchase Analyzer Works

Purchase Analyzer is based on the concept of analyzing eligible cloud usage over time and estimating how it would be covered by Savings Plans.

It allows you to:

  • Evaluate how much of your usage can be covered by a Savings Plan

  • Estimate potential savings based on different commitment levels

  • Analyze usage trends over a selected period

  • Compare different plan durations (1-year and 3-year)

The analysis is based on:

  • Your historical usage (lookback period)

  • Selected accounts (master or linked)

  • Existing commitments (optional exclusion)

Savings Plan Types

Compute Savings Plan

Covers compute services such as:

  • EC2

  • Fargate

  • Lambda

Applies across regions and instance types and suitable for general compute workloads

Database Savings Plan

Covers AWS managed database services, including:

  • Amazon RDS

  • Amazon Aurora

  • Amazon DynamoDB

  • Amazon ElastiCache

  • Amazon DocumentDB

  • Amazon Neptune

  • Amazon Keyspaces (for Apache Cassandra)

  • Reseller Commitments – commitments purchased through a reseller

When selected, these commitments will not be included in the analysis.

Step 3. Run Analysis

Click on the Run analysis button.

Step 4. Analysis Progress

The system processes analysis in stages:

  • In Queue – waiting for resources

  • Analyzing Data – calculating savings scenarios

  • Completing – preparing results

Step 5. Review Results

After completion, the system provides:

Recommended Commitment

  • Suggested hourly commitment

  • Calculated for:

    • 1-year plan

    • 3-year plan

Recommended Commitment:

Suggested hourly commitment for 1-year and 3-year plans.

Savings Estimation:

Estimated monthly savings and percentage improvement comparing current vs. recommended costs.

Cost Breakdown:

Compares commitment, on-demand, and total costs.

Usage Visualization:

Charts displaying consumption, covered usage, and potential covered usage (1-year / 3-year). Hover for details, analyze trends, or expand for a larger view.

Click the Expand button to view the graph in a larger size.

Key Considerations

This analysis encompasses both a 1-year and a 3-year timeframe, presenting both scenarios within a unified evaluation.

The results presented are specifically tailored to the filters you have selected and the usage period you have specified, ensuring the analysis is relevant to your particular needs.

Flexibility is a key feature: You retain the ability to modify the parameters used in the analysis and rerun the evaluation at any point, allowing for iterative exploration and refinement of your optimization strategies.

Analysis Outcome

By leveraging the Purchase Analyzer, you gain the capacity to:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of your cloud usage patterns, identifying trends and areas for potential optimization.

  • Thoroughly evaluate various Savings Plans scenarios to determine the most advantageous options for your specific usage profile.

  • Compare different commitment options side-by-side, enabling you to weigh the trade-offs between flexibility and cost savings.

  • Ultimately, make well-informed cost optimization decisions, driving efficiency and maximizing the value of your cloud investments.
